Baby Srivalli treated for Retinoblastoma

Baby Maturi Srivalli from Warangal in Andhra Pradesh had her mother Srilatha notice a white reflex in the right eye when the child was 2 years old. Seeing it grow with time , the worried parents rushed to the Government hospital and later , on advice from friends and well wishers , to LVPEI.

At LVPEI, an Examination Under Anaesthesia (EUA), the right eye was diagnosed with Group D Retinoblastoma. The attending doctor , Dr Swathi Kaliki assured the worried parents that the problem could be controlled. Chemotherapy followed by Periocular Carboplatin injections (3 in number) were adminstered. Following tumour recurrence , focal treatment (Transpupillary Thermo Therapy ) was performed to the troubled eye.

The doctors at LVPEI also examined Srivalli's brother to rule out the possibility of retinoblastoma in the sibling. With very little vision when the treatment commenced, the parents Rajkumar and Srilatha are very happy that by the time the third injection was administered , there was significant improvement . The family continues to visit LVPEI every 45 days and is grateful to the hospital for providing the entire treatment free of cost.
